Where We StandWhat Guides UsHow We Work

Where We Stand—Transformation Generates New Possibilities

Individual and organizational transformation is at the heart of JMJ's philosophy and consulting approach. It defines who we are and how we work with our clients.

Lasting transformation—people changing from one way of being to another—requires more than an incremental shift at the margin; rather it calls for a fundamental reorientation in the way people address challenging situations and motivate themselves and others to act in innovative ways.

Transformation begins when people confront the status quo, without fear or blame, illuminating blind spots that limit lasting change. From these insights new possibilities arise and form the basis for an unprecedented, compelling picture of the future from which new ways of acting emerge.

Purposefully generating a transformational process that draws out personal and organizational possibility is a foundational aspect of JMJ's consulting. Together, JMJ and each client go to work turning the new possibility into specific, intentional, sustainable capabilities and actions in service of realizing the newly revealed future.

What Guides Us—Consulting From an Integral Perspective

JMJ applies an integral perspective to quickly illuminate and distinguish pivotal aspects of each client's primary business challenge. This results in the fullest picture possible of a situation and enables us to create comprehensive, transformational solutions that leverage each client's strengths, while addressing areas that require improvement.

We have distilled this approach into a proprietary methodology called the Integral Assessment™ process. The output of this process both steers our work and serves as a benchmark against which a client's progress is measured over time. With it we are better able to help our clients envision and achieve a range of performance possibilities previously unimaginable.

Experience has shown us that when a client is able to expand and balance performance capability in each of the domains represented by the quadrant model shown above, regardless of the goal at hand, progress towards the lasting change desired is accelerated and sustainability is increasingly assured. How We Work—Moving Forward Over Time

Simple, yet powerful, the JMJ approach follows Three Engagement Phases and Four Consulting Keys that together ensure that each client achieves the breakthrough performance desired.

Engagement Phases

During the course of an engagement with JMJ, a client will experience three major phases:

Assess, Design and Plan; Implement and Sustain; Celebrate and Complete

When desired, the three phases are packaged as a single solution that is scoped appropriate to a client's situation and rolled-out as a unit. This proven approach suits many clients well. At other times, the phases are addressed sequentially, one following the other as completion of each phase draws near. JMJ works well from either engagement scenario.

Whether delivered as a single unit, or sequentially, the phases encompass the following detail.

1. Assess, Design and Plan

Each JMJ engagement aims to meet a client's pressing needs and leverage existing expertise. Whether in an initial conversation with a client or during a midstream engagement review:

  • The Integral Assessment process (in one of several forms) is applied to determine what needs to be addressed and/or leveraged,
  • The appropriate consulting solution is designed from the assessment process output and client conversations,
  • An implementation plan is offered drawing both from the full JMJ consulting toolkit and our long-standing expertise in designing tailored consultative interventions.

Engagement scopes are refined with the client over time based upon results accomplished.

2. Implement

With a clear plan in hand that addresses the type, breadth and depth of learning required, as well as the logistical nature of the task at hand (e.g., how many people, locations, schedules, etc.), the client and JMJ go into action together using a customized series of meetings, sessions, workshops and interventions inside an agreed upon, effective time frame. At designated intervals, engagements are paused for Engagement Review to take into account progress to date, and possibly re-enter Phase 1 (Assess, Design and Plan) for recalibration, before resuming Implementation.

3. Sustain

As a client reaches new performance milestones with JMJ as a partner, we attend to building new capability inside the client organization—including coaching directed at necessary process or system changes—so progress achieved will last beyond the engagement period. Also aimed at sustaining momentum, we ensure that engagement accomplishments are acknowledged and celebrated, thus helping the client to experience and learn the role that reinforcing accomplishment plays in lasting change.

Consulting Keys

JMJ consulting concentrates on four key areas of focus to ensure the success of our work. (Scroll over the graphic for details.)

During the full course of a JMJ engagement, our clients will experience emphasis being placed on one or more of these consulting keys at any time. At engagement completion, the importance of each will be readily apparent. In fact, the Four Keys guide can be used by our clients to secure sustainability of the performance breakthrough achieved.
