The LNG2026 Conference in Doha brought together global energy leaders at a time of rapid change for the sector. Conversations showed growing confidence in LNG’s long-term role, alongside a more pragmatic outlook shaped by energy security concerns, rising electricity demand and the practical realities of decarbonization. Across sessions and side discussions, the focus moved beyond ambition toward delivery, how the industry will reliably supply energy, reduce emissions and scale infrastructure in an increasingly uncertain world.

JMJ’s Chief Consulting Officer Mark Britton, Executive Director Chris Dantas, and Principal Consultant Sandy Schreiber attended the conference and share their key takeaways below.

  • LNG is becoming a long-term energy pillar
The industry increasingly sees gas as a permanent part of the energy mix, supporting both reliability and lower emissions.
  • Energy security is now a primary driver
Recent disruptions reinforced LNG’s role as a flexible global stabilizer during supply shocks.
  • Demand growth looks strong, but timing varies
Growth is expected across Asia, emerging markets and power generation, with AI adding to electricity demand.
  • Gas and renewables work together
Dispatchable gas remains essential to balance intermittent renewable supply and prevent outages.
  • Infrastructure will decide the pace
Power networks, regasification and distribution capacity are the real constraints, not resource availability.
  • Delivery performance matters most
Reliability, partnerships and execution capability are becoming key differentiators.
  • Decarbonization is becoming practical
Methane reduction, efficiency improvements and carbon capture are the near-term priorities.
  • Talent is a growing concern
The industry needs more operational and engineering capability to deliver safely and reliably.

Overall

The mood was confident but grounded. There is clear belief in long-term LNG demand, but success will depend on practical execution, collaboration and operational capability rather than scale alone.

Thank you to the organizers and hosts for bringing the industry together for open and constructive discussions. If you were at LNG2026 or would like to continue the conversation, we would welcome the opportunity to connect. Get in touch.
