On November 6, 2024, JMJ was honored to participate in the Dansk Offshore Safety Conference, where the focus was Mastering Safety Across Generations. With a theme centered on mental health and psychological safety, the event brought together safety leaders and industry experts to explore the role of leadership in fostering supportive, mentally healthy environments across multigenerational teams. JMJ Principal Consultant Andy Mais served as moderator, while Senior Consultant and Clinical Psychologist Lorenzo Gallinari presented on the importance of psychological safety. The conference attracted 250 in-person attendees and was streamed to energy platforms across the Danish North Sea and educational institutions throughout Denmark, underscoring the industry’s commitment to safety and well-being for all.

Key takeaways

Speakers addressed the need for mental health support tailored to the diverse needs of a multigenerational workforce. Anders Thoft Marcussen discussed ways to build workplaces where stress and mental health can be openly addressed.
  • Human connection and empathy in the workplace
Organizational psychologist Sofie Smidt Hansen emphasized the importance of forming genuine connections among colleagues. Attendees engaged in exercises to explore the impact of their personal histories on present relationships and team dynamics.
  • Practical techniques for psychological safety
Lorenzo Gallinari shared actionable strategies for building psychologically safe workplaces, highlighting the benefits for team dynamics and overall well-being. Attendees discussed how leaders can cultivate environments where team members feel safe to express concerns and ideas without fear of judgment.
