JMJ’s Andy Ellis and Rahul Verma recently attended the one-day ECC Extra Conference, hosted by the Engineering and Construction Contracting Association (ECC), a premier global professional body for engineering, construction, and capital projects. Held in Austin, TX, this gathering brought industry leaders together for a day filled with engaging sessions and valuable networking opportunities. Expert panels led thought-provoking discussions on various industry challenges and opportunities, ranging from navigating technological disruptions to addressing workforce dynamics, offering fresh perspectives and actionable insights.

Reflecting on their experience, Andy and Rahul highlight some key takeaways:

  1. Safety culture matters: The event provided a platform for in-depth discussions on the importance of safety culture in safeguarding individuals and enhancing operational efficiency within construction. Attendees exchanged insights and actionable strategies aimed at embedding safety protocols and creating a culture of care.
  2. Industry exodus concerns: A major focus of the discussions revolved around the worrying trend of 1.2 million individuals are leaving the construction industry annually. Participants shared their concerns regarding the challenges in recruiting and retaining skilled craft workers, underscoring the need for collective action and innovative solutions to revitalize the industry’s workforce landscape.

Andy and Rahul would like to thank ECC for an informative and meticulously organized conference.
